More wet weather sees McDougall in sixth place at Oulton Park, Q1
04-05-2008
The 2008 British Supersport Cup continues to be plagued by unpredictable weather conditions. Following a series of rainstorms, Beowulf Racing's Pat McDougall splashed his way to 6th place in the standings during this afternoon's opening Qualifying session on a very wet Oulton Park circuit.
The start of the session was delayed due to a lengthy stoppage in the preceding British Superbike practice period. Although Pat looked set to log his best time on his final lap of the 35-minute period he was thwarted by a near-highside at Lodge corner, which he rescued extremely skilfully. Instead, his twelfth lap remained as his best, timed at one minute 53.447 seconds. In terms of the main Supersport series, Pat lies in 24th place overall.
Another 35-minute session is due to begin at 4.45pm. With the Cheshire skies remaining as unpredictable as ever it is anyone's guess if it will give the riders the opportunity to improve on their earlier times. A full report and photos will follow this evening.
McDougall fourth at Oulton Park after opening Practice sessions
03-05-2008
After two 40-minute Free Practice sessions at Oulton Park today, Beowulf rider Pat McDougall has set the fourth fastest time ahead of Monday's second-round race in the British Supersport Cup with a lap of one minute 42.866 seconds. UK Team Manager David McDougall described it as a "fair start" to the weekends proceedings.
Extensive changes were made to the suspension and gearing of the Beowulf Yamaha after this morning's session which saw McDougall lap the 2.7-mile Cheshire circuit with a time of one minute 44.327 seconds. The changes obviously did the trick, as the Guildford-based rider was able to go almost 1.6 seconds quicker this afternoon.
Currently, Pat is one second adrift of the top-placed Cup rider Craig Fitzpatrick (Yamaha) and only two-tenths of a second behind the next Cup rider Andy Weymouth (Yamaha). In terms of the main Supersport championship, Pat sits in 24th position with the Suzuki-mounted Ian Lowry heading the field with a time of one minute 40.396 seconds.
Further changes are planned for the front suspension of the Beowulf Yamaha this evening. Pat describes himself as "reasonably happy" with his progress so far and believes tomorrow's two Qualifying sessions will bring further reductions in his times.
